Enabling Panorama and New Autocorrect in iOS 5.0 / 5.0.1 NO JAILBREAK

Hi folks,

I've fond a few interesting articles on the internet, how to enable the new autocorrect feature and a new panorama feature on iOS. Without a jailbreak!
As these are not announced by Apple yet, expect some bugs and not so clean interface design.

First, make sure u have iOS 5.0.1 on your phone (will work with 5.0 as well).

Make a backup with itunes. If u usually use iCloud, just rightclick on the iPhone in iTunes and hit the backup button.

Download the following Software: iBackupBot (http://www.icopybot.com/itunes-backup-manager.htm) available for Mac and PC.

Fire up iBackupBot. Look for your latest Backup and open it.


New Autocorrect:
Go to Library/Preferences/com.apple.keyboard.plist and open it. If you have the unregistered version of iBackupBot just hit cancel, the file opens anyway.

Add in the following code: KeyboardAutocorrectionListsYES

Mine now looks like this:

BuddySetupDone

KeyboardAutocorrectionLists 

YES 

Save and close.

Panorama Mode:

Find the file /Library/Preferences/com.apple.mobileslideshow.plist

Look for the key: DiskSpaceWasLow

Add below this key:  EnableFirebreak

Save and close.

Finish up:
Klick in iBackupBot on the main menu on the iPhone with the blue arrow.

Enabling HDR for 3G and 3GS

First, you'll need a jailbroken iOS 4.1 for the next steps. I know, the Jailbreak for 4.1 is not out there yet. So, stay tuned.

B.If you have an iPhone 3G, grab the file located at /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/N82AP.plist

C.If you have an iPhone 3GS, grab the file located at /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/N88AP.plist

D.Add a key named “hdr-image-capture” with a boolean value of “true” to the “capabilities” section of this property list

E.Save it, and use SSH to replace the copy on the device with your modified version

F.Restart SpringBoard, or just reboot your device. You should now have access to the HDR setting in the camera application.

iTunes Umzug von Mac auf Windows

Eigentlich gehört es sich ja nicht, doch leider muss ich diesen Schritt wagen: Mehrere Wochen ohne OSX und mit Windows 7. Kleine Backgrund-Story: Da ich warscheinlich ende des Jahres nach Australien gehe werde ich für ein paar Wochen keinen Mac haben (bis ich mir dort einen gekauft habe), darum muss mein Win 7 Netbook herhalten. Selbstverständlich ist schon iTunes 10 installiert und will jetzt mit Daten gefüttert werden.

Ausgangssituation ist ein iMac mit OSX 10.6.4 und iTunes 10 und ein Windows 7 Home Premium Netbook mit iTunes 10, sowie eine ausreichend große externe Festplatte.
Als erstes muss die iTunes Bibliothek zusammengelegt werden. In der Menubar auf iTunes -> Mediathek klicken und den Prozess durchlaufen lassen, hat bei mir ca. 30 sec bei >5000 Liedern gedauert.

Auf dem Mac öffnen wir nun den Finder und gehen nach /Benutzer/"DeinUsername"/Music und kopieren den gesamten iTunes Ordner auf die externe Festplatte.

Auf dem Windows PC öffnen wir den Explorer und gehen nach C:/Benutzer/"DeinUsername"/Eigene Musik und ersetzen dort einfach den kompletten iTunes Ordner mit dem auf der Festplatte.

Jetzt starten wir, mit gedrückter Shift-Taste, iTunes auf dem PC und wählen die gerade kopierte Libary aus. Falls man diese unter /iTunes/ nicht findet, einfach den Explorer öffnen und in dem Verzeichniss die "iTunes Library" Datei suchen und den Suffix ".itl" anhängen.

Fertig.

Workaround: Facebook 3.2 Fehler

Folgender Workaround hat mir geholfen Facebook nach dem Update auf 3.2 wieder zum leben zu erwecken.

Danach geht Facebook wieder, BiteSMS allerdings nicht.

Update:
Als Alternative zu Rock kann auch Sbsettings genutzt werden.

Cydia Database Error - solved!

Sollte beim Start von Cydia euch diese Fehlermeldung begrüßen:

Error: Database
Problem parsing dependency Conflicts

Einfach in den Ordner

private\etc\apt\sources.list.d\

gehen und die Datei cydia.list löschen. Diese beinhaltet eure manuell eingetragenen Sourcen.

Ihr könnt die Datei auch öffnen und jeden Eintrag manuell editieren um zu schauen, an welchem es liegt.

Darum Jailbreak

Für mich zählen folgende Programme und Erweiterungen zu den "Must-Have"s nach einem Jailbreak.

LockInfo (kostenpflichtig):

Für mich eigentlich der Grund zum Jailbreak. Auf dem LockScreen lassen sich alle Informationen schnell einsehen. Anstehende Termine, SMS, Mails, PushNotifications, Wetter, Twitter ... Man hat einfach ein schnelle Übersicht, ohne die entsprechenden Programme öffnen zu müssen.

Notifier:

Zeigt Informationen zu Mail, SMS, IM, Kalender, Voicemail, ... anhand von kleinen Icons links neben der Akkuanzeige.

MyWi (kostenpflichtig):

Verwandelt das iPhone in einen 3G-Wlan Router. Unterstützt WEP zur Verschlüsselung, was für temporäre Internetzugänge aber auch ausreicht.

SBSettings:

Erlaubt mit einem kurzen "Wisch" über die Uhrzeit den Schnellzugriff auf Systemfunktionen des iPhones, zB das An/Ausschalten von UMTS, WLAN, Autokorrektur, SSH. Oder das Einstellen der Displayhelligkeit, killen von Prozessen. SBSettings ich durch viele weitere s.g. Toggles üer Cydia erweiterbar.

qTweeter (kostenpflichtig):

qTweeter öffnet sich beim Ziehen an der Uhr von oben nach unten und erlaubt es Statusmeldungen schnell in die Netzwerke von Facebook und/oder Twitter zu posten. qTweeter versteht sich auch mit Bildern und Videos, Lokationsinformationen, sowie Linkshortener-Diensten.

Cyntact (kostenpflichtig):

Zeigt in der Adressbuchliste das entsprechende Profilbild, falls vorhanden, mit an.

BiteSMS (Donationware):

BiteSMS ist ein Replacement für die SMS App und erlaubt u.A. das kostengünstige senden von SMS über das Internet, sobald die eigenen Frei-SMS aufgrbraucht sind. Dazu zählt BiteSMS die bisher versendeten SMS und stellt auf Wunsch danach auf den eigenen Sevice um (diesen muss man vorher mit Credits aufladen). BiteSMS bietet noch weitere tolle Features, unteranderem eine QuickReply Funktion (direktes Beantworten der SMS aus der Popup Nachricht herraus) oder das Anzeigen von Profilbildern in den Popups.

Als Randbemerkung vllt. noch interessant: Alle hier beschriebenen Cydia Programme funktionieren einwandfrei unter iOS4 auf dem iPhone 4.

Disable Alias Arrow in OSX

I dislike the Windows-like arrows in the lower left corner of alias icons. Ever since Panther came out, I'd been using the technique described in this hint to get rid of them. When the 10.4.3 Update restored the pesky arrows, I had a little trouble locating the tip, because it is categorized for 10.3, and updated information for Tiger users is only presented at the end of the comments. Hence, this 10.4-only version summarizes (and slightly elaborates on) the Tiger-specific instructions from the original submission.

This procedure, which renames the arrow-image file (AliasBadgeIcon.icns) so that the System won't find it, affects all users and accounts and requires administrator privileges. Open Terminal and type:

Press Return and then type:

Press Return again, type your administrator's password at the prompt, and you're done. The arrows will be gone after your next restart.

To undo this, repeat the steps above, but swap the positions of the filenames on the second command line:
